HOW TO DEAL WITH EXECUTIONAL GAPS

by admin

Ever found yourself in a situation where simple tasks like doing and folding your laundry, attending an important online meeting, replying to an important email or text become impossible due to no valid reason. You have all it takes, you already know what needs to be done, maybe even know how to simply do the task, but you just can’t simply DO IT.

This is a symptom of depression known as ” Impossible tasks.”
Many times, businesses find themselves in the same spot when it comes to execution. You have everything in place: team, strategy, and objectives. Already know what needs to be done but can’t seem to get to the execution phase. The folks at Sopheon report that nearly two-thirds to three-quarters of businesses struggle with execution. Execution excellence is the biggest challenge facing corporate leaders.
In business execution, crises arise from a single person trying to do everything at once, sales/ finances/ customer services, and even marketing. Execution excellence requires you to wear many hats.  By the time you start getting comfortable doing a certain task, you immediately hire someone to perform that role because you get to become the constraint of growth. As the owner of the business, you can’t do it all simply because you can’t hire someone else.
The biggest challenge to execution excellence is due to lack of pre-set meetings to move forward towards set objectives and provide time for the team to assess and make mi- course corrections to make sure the objectives are met. Lack of commitment to regularly check on the progress the main purpose and objectives get siide-lined to tackle upcoming daily or weekly challenges.
The first step to dealing with execution failure is to clearly define the success measures, required skills and business basic needs since all these will help to identify gaps, obstacles and develop measures together with action steps to undertake.
There is also a need to clarify responsibilities and assign clear responsibilities since the goal is to always prevent execution obstacles from occurring so as to smoothly transit from planning to execution excellence.
ARE MOST OF THE EXECUTION FAILURES RELATED TO LEADERS GETTING IN THE WAY OF EXECUTION ? The is simply yes mostly due to mistrust to their teams to get the job done.
take home point is, leaders need to develop trust in their time and take proper time in planning and delegation and this is by knowing what needs to be done and who is best suited to do it and delegating to avoid Execution failures or simply developing ” The Impossible tasks”
